RITANZ 2026 Insolvency Conference

RITANZ 2026 Insolvency Conference

Andrew Oorschot, Laura Devine Giles, and Krishna Patel from Ashton Wheelans’ Insolvency and Restructuring team recently attended the 2026 Insolvency Conference hosted by the Restructuring, Insolvency and Turnaround Association of New Zealand (RITANZ).

The conference brought together industry professionals to share knowledge and practical insight, with a strong focus on how to better support clients through increasingly complex and challenging situations.

A key theme throughout was the importance of timely, well considered action. This included acting quickly when realising assets, managing business sales effectively, and understanding when continuing to trade during liquidation may preserve value for stakeholders. Sessions also highlighted ways to improve efficiency and consistency in insolvency processes, ensuring smoother outcomes for all parties involved.

There was significant discussion around industries under pressure, including construction, hospitality, and rural sectors, and how tailored, practical approaches are essential in supporting clients within these environments.

Importantly, the conference reinforced the need to balance technical expertise with a people focused approach. Supporting clients through financial distress requires clear communication, transparency, and empathy, while recognising the wider impact on businesses, whānau, and communities.

Overall, the insights gained will strengthen Ashton Wheelans’ ability to provide informed, responsive, and practical support to clients navigating insolvency and restructuring matters.
