Congratulations for making your way to our Maori Business Mentoring webpage. Below you will find some useful information with ways that Ashton Wheelans may be of assistance to you and your whanau. We are pleased to be able to offer assistance to Maori individuals and businesses a mentoring service through Te Puni Kokiri. We are one of three approved mentors in the Canterbury region and can provide assistance with new business start up, business planning and improving your existing service. Our assistance (when approved) is funded by Te Puni Kokiri so you can focus on working on your business - not in it.
This service can provide you with advice and guidance to new and existing Maori businesses.
The Maori Business Facilitation Service is available to those who:
- are of Maori descent; and
- are the company director or business owner; and
- are living within New Zealand and have or intend to have a New Zealand registered company; and
- have a business or business idea that seeks commercial gain.
The Maori Business Facilitation Service does not provide funding but can help with:
- Facilitation;
- Brokerage;
- Mentoring;
- Coaching;
- Problem-solving;
- Networking; and
- Accessing resources and referrals to other business services.
The Process
The process for identifying your needs is as follows:
- Discuss the nature and viability of your business or business proposition;
- Identify if and how we can help you;
- Identify your capabilities as a business operator;
- Identify any other critical issues and business needs;
If you are a new/start-up business you must:
- Have developed the first draft of your business plan;
- Attend an Inland Revenue Introduction to Business workshop.
Ashton Wheelans - the Contracted Business Mentor
Once the initial assessment is completed you may be referred to a Te Puni Kokiri Contracted Business Mentor - Ashton Wheelans being one of 3 within the Canterbury region.
We are contracted from the private sector and are experts in business development. We have proven business experience and have entered into this mentoring relationship to help people like you succeed in business. We will:
- Help you to review or strengthen your business plan; or
- Provide advice about the commitments you face as the owner of a business; or
- Support the start-up, growth or recovery of your business; and
- Mentor you through the completion of the agreed interventions.
The Maori Business Facilitation Service will assist you to increase your business capability.
