The Government has announced proposals to simplify the financial reporting framework for small and medium sized businesses and registered charities. The proposals will mean that non-issuer companies that are not large will not be required to prepare financial statements under the Companies Act, and instead will prepare targeted reports for income tax purposes only. The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Inland Revenue Department will develop new criteria for those who qualify for tax reporting. Special financial reporting requirements will also apply for registered charities. Most changes are likely to be introduced during the 2013 year, with changes for not-for-profits to be introduced in mid-2014.
